The kamado grill top cooking grid is a very practical accessory to increase the cooking surface available in your kamado. It is placed above the main grill to create a second cooking level, ideal when you want to prepare several foods at the same time.
For a novice user, this grid allows for better cooking organization. Food placed on the upper grid is further away from the embers: it therefore cooks more gently than on the main level. This is perfect for keeping some foods warm, finishing cooking, cooking vegetables, reheating bread, or preparing more delicate foods without exposing them directly to the strong heat of the charcoal.
It is particularly useful for meals with several guests, as it allows you to utilize the height of the kamado and cook more without changing barbecues. For example, you can sear meat on the main grill while cooking vegetables, potatoes, bread, or side dishes on the upper grill.
Made of stainless steel, this grill is durable, easy to clean, and suitable for regular use with a kamado barbecue.
What is a kamado grill top cooking grid used for?
The top cooking grid allows you to:
- add a second cooking level in the kamado;
- increase the available cooking surface;
- cook several foods at the same time;
- keep certain foods away from direct heat;
- keep food warm during cooking;
- cook vegetables, bread, fish, or side dishes more gently;
- organize more complete cooking on a single barbecue;
- optimize the interior space of the kamado barbecue.
How to use the top cooking grid?
Place the top cooking grid above your main grill, making sure its feet are stable. Once installed, you can place food directly on it.
Use the main grill for foods that require stronger heat, such as searing meats, burgers, or sausages. Use the top grill for foods that require gentler cooking or slower finishing, such as vegetables, bread, potatoes, fish, or already cooked foods to keep warm.
This grid can also be used during indirect cooking, to place food higher in the kamado and benefit from more enveloping heat.
After use, let it cool completely, then clean it with a brush or sponge suitable for stainless steel.

Questions before choosing your kamado?
A kamado is much more than just a barbecue. Thanks to its ceramic bowl and excellent heat retention, it can be used for grilling, searing, smoking, roasting, slow cooking, and even making pizzas or bread. It can be used for quick high-temperature cooking as well as long, slow cooking.
For best results, use natural lump charcoal, without additives or chemical fire starters. This type of charcoal provides better combustion, produces less ash, and allows for better temperature control. Avoid classic briquettes, which are often less suitable for kamado cooking.
Yes, temperature control is achieved using the vents located at the top and bottom of the kamado. By opening or closing these air inlets, you adjust the temperature according to the desired cooking type: low temperature for smoking, medium heat for roasting, or very high temperature for searing meat or cooking pizza. After a few uses, adjusting becomes very simple.
The choice depends on the number of people you regularly cook for and the space you have available.
To help you choose:
- 15 inches: ideal for up to 6 people
- 18 inches: 39 cm grate — ideal for 6 to 8 people
- 21 inches: 47 cm grate — ideal for 8 to 10 people
- 23 inches: 50 cm grate — ideal for 10 to 12 people
- 25 inches: 55 cm grate — ideal for 12 to 16 people
For typical family use, a 15 or 18-inch model is usually sufficient. To host regularly or cook large cuts of meat, opt for a 21-inch model or larger.
Yes, maintenance is very simple. Just heat the kamado to a high temperature for a few minutes to burn off cooking residues, then scrub the grill with our cleaning brush. Once the ashes have cooled, all that remains is to regularly remove them to keep your kamado clean and ready for use.
Lighting is quick and easy. Place natural charcoal in the basin, add a natural firelighter, then open the top and bottom vents to allow air to circulate. Once the charcoal is well lit, close the lid and adjust the vents to reach the desired temperature.
The kamado's ceramic is guaranteed for 20 years, a testament to its strength and durable design. This barbecue is designed to accompany you for many years, performing as well for cooking as it is elegant on a patio or in a garden.
